NCAA President Mark Emmert said that if a student athlete was using college as a stepping stone to become a professional and not focusing on their academics they shouldn't be at college in the first place. On December 20, 2017, LaVar Ball took that message to heart when he announced he would start his own professional basketball league - an alternative to NCAA - where kids who dreamed of being professional basketball players could focus on just that.
