Freelancing is a funny thing. Sometimes you show up for an assignment and the folks you're there to cover don't really want you there - which is what happened when I was assigned to cover the JBA League tryouts in Dallas. The funny thing is that they were very interested in my photography work and asked if they could hire me for the day.
At the end of the day they asked if I could come to Houston with them the next day - after that they asked if I could make it to the tryouts in Atlanta and Chicago the next weekend - and after that they asked me if I could make it to the tryouts in Philly and NYC the next weekend - thankfully my weekends were pretty clear and I spent three weekends in six cities with the Big Baller Brand documenting the humble beginnings of their new basketball league.
It's awesome when a new client not only wants to invest in photography but is interested in my personal vision and gives me free reign to create the imagery that I want and what I think would work best for their brand. It was a wild few weeks of travel but we were all thrilled with the results and I can't wait for the next chapter.
